Employed professionals · $100 to file · zero income tax above $500,000
Both are true, and every W-2 client gets the same thing: an honest price to file, and the zero income tax strategy if your income qualifies for it. H&R Block and the rest charge $250 to $800 for the filing alone.
These come up in nearly every first conversation. Here is our honest answer to each.
You were told a number, then charged for the state return, then for a schedule you did not know you needed. Here the number is $100 to prepare the return, plus the state filing fee our software charges, passed straight through at cost. There is no third line. If your situation genuinely needs more work, we tell you the number before we start rather than after.
That is the normal position, and it is not your fault — a filing service is not paid to look for it. We look at your last return for free and tell you plainly whether there is anything there. If there is not, we say so, and you have your answer for nothing.
It usually is sold that way. Ours is charged as 40% of the tax we actually save, verified, so there is no bill unless there was a saving, and the saving is always the larger number. Nothing to weigh up, nothing to risk.
A list you can hand to your partner, your CFO or your spouse without translating it first.
One hundred dollars is the price to prepare the return for a W-2 earner under $300,000. On top of it you pay only the state filing fee our software charges us, at cost — we do not mark it up and we do not add anything else. It is not the price for a return with rental property, a business, a partnership K-1 or crypto activity; those are real work and are quoted separately, in advance, before anything begins.
What we put in writing
The tax planning fee is 40% of the tax actually saved, billed by ARPP LLC and paid out of money that was otherwise going to the Treasury. If the saving does not happen, there is nothing to pay. Tax return preparation is billed separately by Barr Advanced Tax Solutions under its own fee schedule.
For clients with $500,000 or more of income, we guarantee to identify at least $10,000 in tax reduction beyond what your current CPA, EA or tax attorney has already found. If we do not, Barr Advanced Tax Solutions prepares your individual federal returns at no charge for the next three years — a stated value of up to $22,500. Eligibility conditions apply and are published in full on our Terms & Guarantees page.
We do not use anything we would not want to explain to an examiner. Each position we take rests on the Internal Revenue Code, the regulations, or settled authority — not on an aggressive reading of a grey area and a hope that nobody looks.
Should any planning we put in place come under scrutiny, we stand behind it and defend the position at no cost to you, for as long as that position is open. You are not handed a strategy and then left alone with it.

For comparison, H&R Block and the national chains charge somewhere between $250 and $800 for the same filing, depending on where you live — and that is before anyone has looked at whether you are overpaying.
Tax planning, where there is something to plan, is 40% of the tax actually saved — verified, and billed by ARPP LLC. If the saving does not happen, there is nothing to pay. That is what makes the net cost of the planning zero.
